A gerund is a verbal that ends in -ing and functions as a noun. Adjective: gerundial or gerundival. The term gerund is used in traditional grammar, but many contemporary linguists prefer instead to use the -ing form instead. A gerund accompanied by its objects, complements, and/or modifiers is called a gerund phrase or simply a noun phrase.

 

वह अभी तक आया क्यों नहीं ?

why hasn't he returned yet?

मैंने उसे बहुत बर्दास्त कर लिया |

A gerund can be either the subject or object of a sentence in English, e.g. 'Cycling is fun ' or 'I enjoy cycling '. Gerunds are verbal nouns, and I remember that they are used in a special way

Gerunds are words that are formed with verbs but act as nouns. Theyare very easy to spot, since every gerund is a verb with ing tacked to its tail. There are no exceptions to this rule. Like all things grammar, gerunds do take a tiny bit of detective work to spot.

 

अपने जूते उतारो |

Take off your shoes.

मुझे पता था तू खुश होगा |

l knew you’d be happy.

तुमने कमल को देखा है कहीं ?

You saw Kamal anywhere?

यह मेरे गले में था |

Gerund as Object of Preposition Because a gerund is a noun, it can be the object of a preposition in a prepositional phrase.

 

इस तरह उनकी मुलाकात हुई |

तुम क्यों तकलीफ लेती हो ? मैं देख लूँगा इसे |

why will you take the trouble? I will take care of it.

चलो चलकर पूंछते हैं | हमें पता चल जायेगा यह सच है या नहीं |

Verbing Present Participle Add ing to most verbs. Ex. play gt; playing, cry gt; crying, bark gt; barking; For verbs that end in e, remove the e and add ing.

 

दौ घंटे मैं वापस आता हूँ |
