A gerund / d r n d,- n d / abbreviated GER is any of
various nonfinite verb forms in various languages; most often, but not
exclusively, one that functions as a noun. In English, it has the properties of
both verb and noun, such as being modifiable by an adverb and being able to
take a direct object.
अगर किस्मत में हुआ तो
फिर मिलेंगे |
We'll meet again if we're destined too.
तो तुम कमल हो ?
so you must be Kamal?

Everything will be alright.

वापस ले आओ |
get my stuff back from the
hostel.
Gerunds are words that are formed with verbs but act as
nouns. Theyare very easy to spot, since every gerund is a verb with ing tacked
to its tail. There are no exceptions to this rule. Like all things grammar,
gerunds do take a tiny bit of detective work to spot.
अच्छे लोगो के साथ अच्छा
होता है |
good things happen to good people.
मैं भी फन मॉल आई थी |
I too had come to the fun mall.
इस समय कौन आया होगा ?
Who would have come at this hour?
कॉफ़ी का कितना हुआ ?
How much for the coffee?
A gerund can be either the subject or object of a sentence
in English, e.g. 'Cycling is fun ' or 'I enjoy cycling '. Gerunds are verbal
nouns, and I remember that they are used in a special way

हूँ |
l am not like you all.

Gerund as Object of Preposition Because a gerund is a noun,
it can be the object of a preposition in a prepositional phrase.

सकता है ?
Can I have some water?
तो तुम क्लास में यह पढ़ते
हो ?
so you read this in class?
हमें उन्हें बुलाना होगा |
We'll have to call him.
तुम इतने दिन से कहाँ थे ?
where had you been since so many days?
A gerund always acts as a noun. Therefore a gerund can be a
subject, object, complement,* or object of a preposition. * Complement is a
word, clause, or a phrase that is required to complete the meaning of a
sentence. Complements will be explained in detail in a separate post

क्या मैं यहाँ बैठ सकता हूँ ?
If you don't mind, can I sit here?
मैंने कहा दूर रहो इससे |
I said, stay out of it.
वह सुन्दर ही नहीं काबिल
और समझदार भी है |
He is not only handsome, but able and sensible too.
आपने मुझे अचानक क्यों
बुलाया ?
Why did you summon me so suddenly?
The gerund looks exactly the same as a present participle,
but it is useful to understand the difference between the two. The gerund
always has the same function as a noun although it looks like a verb. Some uses
of the gerund are covered on this page. A separate page deals with verbs that
are followed by the gerund.
तुम्हे सच में याद नहीं
है कि पैसे कहाँ है या तुम नाटक कर रहे हो ?
You really don't remember where the money is? Or are you
pretending?
